On behalf of the Office of Special Programs, and the Zollicoffer and Cross family, we cordially invite you the 38th annual Zollicoffer Lecture & Banquet.  Dr. Lawrence Zollicoffer, MD, (1930-1976) was the fourth African-American graduate of the UNC School of Medicine and founder of the Garywn Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Zollicoffer graduated from NC A&T State University at age 17, the youngest to do so. He then earned his medical degree in 1962 from UNC School of Medicine after waiting nearly a decade for its doors to open to students of color. A supporter and activist for civil and human rights, Dr. Zollicoffer dedicated his life to the health care of the community in which he practiced. Throughout his life, he exemplified qualities that students admire and hope to emulate as future physicians.  We look forward to celebrating the legacy of Dr. Lawrence Zollicoffer and honoring the accomplishments of our lecturer, Dr. Donald Wesson.

This year's Zollicoffer-Merrimon Banquet celebrates the legacy of Dr. Lawrence Zollicoffer & the spirit of community service and inclusion at UNC School of Medicine as well as honors Zollicoffer 2019 lecturer Donald Wesson, MD and his contributions to the medical field and medical education as well as recognizes SNMA, LMSA & QSA students and their contributions to the community.

Additionally we will recognize the 2019 recipient(s) of the Zollicoffer-Cross Community Health Fellowship. We will also recognize honored guests whose commitment to education and dedication to service and diversity contributed to the rich history of UNC School of Medicine.

Each year the UNC SOM chapter of the Student National Medical Association hosts a Silent Auction during the Zollicoffer events to benefit a community non-profit such as a local mentoring program for elementary students. This year's proceeds will benefit The Hive of Bertie County, NC.

The banquet is Friday, February 8, 2019 at 6:30pm at the Carolina Club with the SNMA Silent Auction, cocktail reception & cash bar beginning at 5:30pm. Registration for the banquet begins on Thursday, January 10, 2019 and ends on Friday, February 1, 2019. Registration information can be found at:
