Nominations sought for 2022 Edward Kidder Faculty Service Award

The Edward Kidder Graham Faculty Service Award recognizes a member of the voting faculty who has worked toward former UNC President Graham's ambition “to make the campus co-extensive with the boundaries of the State,” in the context of the University’s modern mission to extend knowledge-based service world-wide. Full information about this award is available on the Faculty Governance website.

Faculty are encouraged to nominate a service-oriented colleague who they deem deserving of this award, such as last year's recipient, Nicholas Didow Jr, associate professor of marketing in the Kenan-Flagler Business School who has an extensive record of service and outreach. We look forward to announcing this year's awardee in advance of University Day when the award will be presented.

The deadline for nominations for the 2022 award is Monday, September 13, 2021.

Nominations need not be extensive. Click on the "Submit a nomination" button to access the nomination form. If you have questions about the award or the nomination process, please contact the Office of Faculty Governance at facgov@unc.edu.

Kramer to be presented with Jefferson Award

Congratulations to History Professor Lloyd S. Kramer on being named the 2021 Thomas Jefferson Award recipient. Chancellor Guskiewicz will present the award at the September Faculty Council meeting with nominator Professor Vin Steponaitis reading the award citation. The Council and observers will then be treated to Professor Kramer's remarks, which will include historical reflections on what a “Jefferson Award” might mean in the current context.

2021 Hettleman Prizes awarded to exceptional early-career faculty members

The annual Phillip and Ruth Hettleman Prizes for Artistic and Scholarly Achievement have been awarded to four promising faculty members who exemplify groundbreaking and innovative research along with future career promise. These faculty members will be recognized at the September Faculty Council meeting.

  • Dr. Nicholas Law (Physics and Astronomy, College of Arts and Sciences)
  • Dr. Alice Marwick (Communication, College of Arts and Sciences)
  • Dr. Daniel Matute (Biology, College of Arts and Sciences)
  • Dr. Cleo Samuel-Ryals (Health Policy and Management, Gillings School of Global Public Health)

Congratulations! We looks forward to sharing more information about your work soon.
